Our Vetting Process

How we verify every tradie on our platform

Quality Over Quantity

We don't accept everyone who applies. Our vetting process is designed to ensure that only licensed, insured, and quality tradies make it into our network. If you can't prove you're legitimate, you don't get accepted. It's that simple.

The 7-Step Verification Process

1

Application Submission

Tradies apply through our Join Our Team page. We collect:

  • Business and trading name
  • Contact details (phone, email, website)
  • Services offered and service areas
  • Years of experience
  • License numbers for all services
  • Insurance details (policy number, insurer, coverage amount)
  • References from recent customers
  • Examples of recent work

Applications with missing information are rejected immediately. No shortcuts.

2

License Verification

We verify every license with the relevant state licensing authority:

  • NSW: NSW Fair Trading
  • VIC: Victorian Building Authority (VBA)
  • QLD: Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC)
  • WA: Building Services Board
  • SA: Consumer and Business Services (CBS)
  • TAS: Consumer, Building and Occupational Services
  • NT/ACT: Relevant territory authorities

We confirm:

  • License is current and not expired
  • License covers the work they're advertising
  • License is not suspended or cancelled
  • No outstanding disciplinary action

If the license check fails, the application is rejected.

3

Insurance Verification

We require proof of current insurance coverage:

  • Public Liability: Minimum $5 million coverage
  • Professional Indemnity: Required for certain trades (electrical contractors, building consultants)
  • Workers Compensation: If they employ staff

We verify:

  • Policy is current (not expired)
  • Coverage amount meets minimums
  • Policy covers the work being performed
  • Insurance company is legitimate and registered

We request a current Certificate of Currency - not just a policy from years ago.

If insurance is inadequate or expired, the application is rejected.

4

ABN & Business Verification

We verify business registration through the Australian Business Register:

  • ABN is active and not cancelled
  • Business name matches application
  • Registered for the business activities claimed
  • GST registered (if turnover requires it)
  • Entity type is appropriate (sole trader, company, partnership, trust)

If ABN details don't match or ABN is cancelled, the application is rejected.

5

Reference Verification

We call every reference provided. We don't just collect email addresses - we actually call customers and ask:

  • What work did the tradie complete?
  • Was the work completed to a high standard?
  • Was pricing fair and transparent?
  • Were they professional and reliable?
  • Did they complete work on time?
  • Would you hire them again?
  • Would you recommend them to others?

We require at least 2 verifiable references from customers in the last 12 months.

If references can't be verified or feedback is poor, the application is rejected.

6

Work Portfolio Review

We review photos and examples of recent completed work:

  • Work quality meets professional standards
  • Photos show actual completed projects (not stock images)
  • Work aligns with services they're claiming to offer
  • Finish quality is consistent and professional

This helps us verify they actually do the work they're claiming, not just holding a license.

7

Complaints & Background Check

Final check before approval:

  • Check Fair Trading complaints in relevant state
  • Check licensing authority for disciplinary history
  • Check our own records for previous complaints
  • Google search for major issues or news articles

Pattern of complaints or serious issues = rejection.

Typical Timeline

Day 0: Application submitted
Day 1: License verification begins, insurance checked
Day 2: ABN verification, references contacted
Day 3: Work portfolio reviewed, background checks
Day 3-5: Final review and decision
Day 5: Approved tradies listed on platform

Complex applications or additional verification may take longer

Ongoing Monitoring

Annual License Renewal Check

Every tradie's license is reverified annually. Licenses expire, get suspended, or get cancelled. We check regularly to ensure everyone listed still holds current licenses.

Insurance Currency Verification

Insurance policies expire. We request updated Certificates of Currency annually to confirm coverage is still in place.

Complaint Monitoring

We track complaints received. One-off issues happen, but patterns of problems result in removal from the platform. Quality matters more than quantity.

Removal for Non-Compliance

Tradies are removed if: license expires or is cancelled, insurance lapses, multiple serious complaints, fraudulent information provided, or professional standards not maintained.

What We Don't List

✗ Unlicensed Operators

If the work requires a license in your state and they don't have one - they don't get accepted.

✗ Uninsured Tradies

No insurance or inadequate coverage = no listing. Too risky for customers.

✗ Cash-Only Cowboys

Professional tradies offer multiple payment methods and proper invoicing.

✗ Poor References

Can't verify references or past customers give negative feedback = rejection.

✗ Complaints History

Pattern of complaints with Fair Trading or licensing authorities = no listing.

✗ Fraudulent Information

Fake licenses, expired insurance certificates, false references = instant rejection.
